How to Record a Duet at Ksolo
This is probably the most frequent question I receive being a member of ksolo....It's actually pretty easy once you learn how, and there are several different methods you can use. You just have to determine which way to record a duet on ksolo is easiest for you.
I am by no means any kind of computer or sound "techie", the information provided below is just what I have learned and have found to work for me. It is also how I found things to work on my computer ;) So everything on your computer may not be exactly as it is on mine.
One Voice without Background Music
One thing that definately makes recording a duet online easier is to get one part recorded as just vocals without the background music. The absolute best instruction I have seen on how to do this were done by a ksolo member, Thom from IL. You can see them on this page: http://www.thewhistleshop.com/ksolo.htm
The Basic Way Your first option is to bring up two ksolo windows, one with the vocals without background music, and one that you want to record on. You will then play the recorded vocals and sing along with them as you record onto your site on ksolo. You will still need to play with lining up the timing, but it is a lot easier than trying to match the background tracks on both, and it will also clean up your sound quite a bit.
Using A Music Editing Program (there's a free music editing program) Another option is to record the song that you just recorded with no background into a music editing program. I personally use Audacity. It was free, and it will do what you need it to do. You can download a copy of Audacity here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Once you have it recorded onto audacity you can play it back on audacity and record your voice along with it on ksolo. The nice thing about having it on audacity is that you can edit the beginning or any place you may want in order to get them to line up perfect. Depending on how much time you have to play around it you can really line up the timing perfect just by cutting or adding little pieces of time onto the recording in Audacity.
If You Have a Lot of Time and like to Play.... You have the entire song recorded onto Audacity and bring the completed song back to ksolo. For those of you who are great with editing software or want to play around and learn it. :) You can do the entire duet off of ksolo and then bring it back onto ksolo. To do this you will need to burn the completed duet to a cd first. Once you have done this you will want to play it onto your computer by using your line in....either on a cd player, karaoke machine etc. When bringing it back you are going to want to set your Main Volume setting as you did to get a voice isolated, with the exception of checking the microphone box. Since you are using your line to generate the sound in this case you will want to check that box instead.
Happy Dueting on Ksolo! :)
